As the world’s leading brewer and the largest no-alcohol beer maker in our top markets, we’re always creating innovative new choices to be enjoyed responsibly on more occasions. At the same time, we make it a priority to champion positive behaviors when drinking, with Global Beer Responsible Day as our biggest annual celebration of moderation. This year we mobilized thousands of colleagues in our communities to promote responsible drinking to consumers and more than 138,000 retailers and trade partners that sell our products. Heavy drinking, including binge drinking, is a high-risk activity.

According to the guidelines, adults of legal drinking age can choose not to drink or to drink in moderation by limiting intake to two drinks or less in a day for men and one drink or less in a day for women when alcohol is consumed. There are some adults who should not drink alcohol, such as women who are pregnant. Adults who choose to drink, and are not among the individuals listed below who should not drink, are encouraged to limit daily intakes to align with the Dietary Guidelines. People who do not drink should not start drinking for any reason. Aside from the immediate influence on appetite that comes from alcohol consumption, there are also effects on energy storage. Alcohol inhibits fat oxidation, suggesting that frequent alcohol consumption could lead to fat sparing, and thus higher body fat in the long term 62.

Keep in mind that the size of the drink and the percent of alcohol makes a difference. For example, many beers are about 5% alcohol, but some have higher percentages of alcohol. And some beers are sold in bigger sizes than the standard 12 ounces.
