The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) gets underway on Monday, with Multan Sultans taking on defending champions Lahore Qalandars in Multan.
We bring to you a team-wise break-up leading up to the start of another PSL season

Islamabad United

Islamabad United are considered one of the strongest teams in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) considering their consistent performances over the last seven seasons.

With PSL 8 just around the corner, the two-time champions will once again be among the title contenders under the leadership of star all-rounder Shadab Khan.

Islamabad United have won Pakistan Super League (PSL) a record two times, but their performances in the last few seasons have not been that great. This year, their captain Shadab Khan will look to change that dynamic a bit.
They have a pretty good squad this season, and they might as well prove their doubters wrong. Let us take a look at the schedule, squad, and season prediction for Islamabad for 2023.

PSL 2023: Islamabad United Squad
Alex Hales, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Wasim Jr, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Abrar Ahmed, Colin Munro,
Paul Stirling, Rumman Raees, Sohaib Maqsood, Hassan Nawaz, Zeeshan Zamir, Moeen Ali, Mubasir Khan

Strengths

Islamabad have always focused on forming a squad which highlights their batting depth and this year is no different.

With the likes of Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Paul Stirling, Azam Khan and Rassie van der Dussen in their squad, Islamabad’s batting lineup has the ability to post
massive total on the board while also chasing down daunting targets with ease.

Meanwhile, Shadab adds balance to the side since he can bat effectively at multiple positions in the batting order while also bamboozling the batters with his sharp leg-spin bowling.

Weaknesses

Hasan Ali, who is supposed to lead Islamabad’s pace battery, has not been in the best of form in the recent past, which also led to his exclusion from the national side. He only played two T20I matches for Pakistan in 2022.

Explosive batter Asif Ali’s form would also be a concern for Islamabad, since he only scored 79 runs in eight innings, with an average less than 10, during the recently-concluded season of the Big Bash League.

The team also lacks bowlers who can bowl effectively at the death, which is one of the most crucial stages of a T20 match.
