Our experience has been that once our clients arrive at Hope House Review, they understand and feel the benefits. You are not locked in to any long term agreements, but we do ask that you come planning to stay for at least 60 days. After your initial period at Tharros, you may wish to explore our less structured home, Teras.
Why Sober Living?
Our support program will afford you support while you mend relationships with family and friends. We know that you can have more fun and a much better life in sobriety; we also know that you’re having a hard time believing that statement right now. With 24/7 management and support, we can help you find an appropriate job, connect with the recovery community through volunteer opportunities and activities, find the right treatment resources, and build a foundation in sobriety. As requested, I taught them how to cut open a chicken breast, like a book, pound it flat then “bread it” in flour, eggs and breadcrumbs. We made a mushroom, parsley, garlic and lemon sauce (not shown here) to bring it all together. Teras does not provide transportation, but you may have a car, and ubers are readily available.

We support each other’s path as well as to share what we have mastered. Some guys come naturally to working with dough, while others are more comfortable with a knife. On my first night of teaching cooking, in the Tharros kitchen, a home for recovering addicts, one of the guys blurted out “Are you gonna be comfortable working with 8 addicts? ”…My quick retort was “Yes, I am very much at home in a kitchen… Teras is located two miles away from Tharros (both Tharros and Teras are in Lexington MA).

When teaching cooking with “my guys”, I am not a professional cook; I am a human being, cooking. Just because we may dump too much cinnamon in an apple turnovers doesn’t mean we aren’t “good enough”; we just let it go and move forward. I want them to feel at ease when trying something new. I don’t want them to be tense with feelings of pressure to do it the “right” way or feel shame if they do it “wrong”. I want to leave room for creativity and mistakes and self acceptance because these are all part of life.
Living in Reality
We employ the tenants of positive psychology to help identify what areas of your life will benefit the most from your attention, ultimately helping you achieve your goals and a life that you look forward to living! Hope House Review has a great number of resources and we can refer you to therapists, programs, and licensed professionals as needed. Perhaps you have a connection with a therapist or life coach that you want to continue. We encourage you to keep what works and add resources where it will benefit your recovery.
I wish the rest of the population was this honest, direct, real and open! “Yes, I said, I am a recovered bulimic.” How lovely to just be able to share the secret of my past like it was no big deal…so refreshing. Cooking with “my guys” at Hope House Review fills me with energy, hope and optimism. Last night we blanched, squeezed and finely chopped six bags of spinach to mix with ricotta, Parmesan and Hope House Review Review nutmeg. With sticky hands we rolled these beautiful gnocchi.
